In 1998, Roger returned to San Antonio as Director of Branding and Programming at Cox Media Group’s (CMG) KONO FM/AM–the radio station where his career began. He became the longest-running program director in KONO’s history for the next twenty-plus years. CMG President, Bob Neil promoted Roger to National Format Coordinator of CMG’s Classic Hits radio brands.
During his time with CMG, Roger received Radio Ink’s Best Program Directors in Radio Award in 2011 and the NAB Marconi Award Winning Classic Hits Station of the Year in 2015. Under his leadership, KONO was also a finalist at the 2017 NAB Marconi Awards (Classic Hits Station of the Year) and the 2017 NAB Crystal Radio Awards.
With over forty-five years in radio and media, he is an inductee into the San Antonio Radio Hall of Fame and the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. Roger Allen holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from Texas State University and a master’s degree in communication from the University of the Incarnate Word.
